Unattended Truck Scale System
- Client: Waste Management
- Problem Summary: The problem with this Waste Management facility was the large number of garbage trucks lining up on 170th street to enter the waste site, the average time to enter the landfill during busy days was 7-12 minutes. Each truck spent an average time of 60-90 seconds on the scale completing the transaction. The volume of trucks sitting on 170th street was causing safety issues; however, the most important thing was the waste of time and money by having all of the truckers lined up waiting to access the landfill.
The Solution
Waste Management was the first large scale automation package that Precision Scale installed. It involved automating both of their Precision Scale truck scales and both of the exit lanes. This system uses a state of the art programmable HMI indicator housed in our custom built unattended cabinet as the main interface, coupled with the tag and RFID reader system. Using this system has empowered the trucker to complete their transaction on the scale and along with the tag and reader system we are able to recall the ID and truck number automatically. With this system we have reduced the transaction time to 35 seconds which has all but eliminated traffic congestion on 170th street. As well our system is all-digital and the transactions are being moved directly into accounting and payroll in Burlington, Ontario.
