Precision Scale

Tank Weighing

Client: Peace Country Oats, Falher, Alberta
Problem Summary: The plant in the former UGG elevator east of Falher is operating with three full-time staff, with custom drying, producer car-loading, and grain marketing of oats. Dan Bouchard, manager at the plant was looking for a system to place under 2 massive tanks that would hold the grain after it came in off the field, the weight of the tanks when full of grain (including the tank structure) was anticipated to be upwards of 150 tonne for each tank.

The Solution

The solution was to utilize the TWM/HBM weigh modules from Rice Lake Weighing Systems, each mount had a capacity of 100,000-lbs each, and the load cell is a torsion ring transducer with built-in overload and over lift protection. The load cells were fed to a small junction box for trimming and then the cable was sent to a basic indicator with an analog output to a PLC. According to Dan the install process and the calibration was very quick and simple.

Equipment Used

  • Rice Lake Weighing Systems TWM/HBM weigh modules, 4 on each tank with a capacity of 100,000-lbs each assembly
  • Rice Lake Weighing Systems EL604ST junction boxes
  • Rice Lake Weighing Systems IQ-355 digital indicators c/w 4-20 mA analog output boards
  • Rice Lake Weighing Systems "LaserLight" remote scoreboards
